Following the run there will be an afternoon of entertainment for the whole family with local live music, an extensive carnival area for children, barbecue and salads, local beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages and desserts. All proceeds raised from the run and the barbecue will go to support Whitethorn School’s booster club, known as F.O.W.S. (Friends of Whitethorn School), which will provide for extra curricular programs of music, aikido, Spanish, and supplies, field trips and much more at Whitethorn School.
The run will begin at the lighthouse promptly at 11 a.m. with an accurate 5K and 10K as well as the “Family Fun Run and Walk” of 2.3 miles. Registration for the run will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The 5K, 10K and Fun Run will travel along Upper and Lower Pacific, which runs along the ocean, with extra run course for the 5K. The 10K will be twice around the 5K run course. All ages and strollers are welcome to participate in this scenic run/walk. However, for safety reasons, no bicycles, skateboards or dogs are allowed.
As soon as possible after the run, the first, second and third place runners for each age category will be announced.
Adult registration for the run is $12, and does not include a shirt, for $20 registration fee, you get a commemorative shirt. For kids, the registration is $8, which does not include a shirt and $16, which includes a shirt. Children under 5 years old run for free and shirts can be purchased.
Enjoy an afternoon barbecue from 12:30 p.m. on with chicken skewers and sauce, hot dogs and local grass-fed burgers. A choice of salads and baked tofu will be offered by J Catering to make for a full plate and delicious lunch or early dinner. Food will be served from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. During the afternoon local musicians, “Two Bevitori’s” will entertain from 12:30 p.m. to around 3 p.m.
Admission and meal is $25 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under. Children 2 years old and under are free. For all runners and volunteers, admission and meal will be discounted to $20 and for kids, to $10. Local beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages can be purchased separately. Desserts will be offered by the Shelter Cove Pioneers with proceeds donated back to F.O.W.S.
Jumping for Joy’s extravaganza carnival will keep kids of all ages entertained for the afternoon. Razzle Dazzle The Clown Extraordinaire will be onsite from 1 p.m., doing face painting and glitter tattoos. A booth with popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones will compliment the kids’ area.
