In case you missed the first open house, come and join Whitethorn Winery and First Fig Gallery for their next open house, Saturday, Dec. 12, 1-5 p.m. at 545 Shelter Cove Road (14 miles west of Redway). Follow the signs at Whitethorn/Shelter Cove junction.

Winemaker Tasha McKee, a native to Humboldt, will pour some of her fabulous wines at her Whitethorn Winery with Pinot Noir barrel and vertical tastings. A 15 percent discount on full cases will be offered.

First Fig Gallery will display works by Kathy Orcut and Valery McKee. Kathy Orcut is a mosaic artist. She has been studying mosaic in the Bay Area as well as in Arcata for a handful of years now. Kathy has an eye for design and color combining, creating beautiful pieces for the garden and home - everything from bird baths to stepping stones to wall hangings, mirrors and more. She will have many of her pieces on display and for sale at the gallery.

Valery McKee has been creating art for many years, working in many mediums. In recent years, Valery was drawn to working with linoleum block prints as well as torn paper. Her work is inspired by dreams, poetry and life stories. She has a real gift for capturing these images and bringing them to life, so do not miss this special viewing of her collection.

Lela McKee will be showing her textile wearable art. Lela has been working with textiles for many years and her love for color combining and prints show in her work. She has been a quilt maker for several years, more recently making more affordable items, such as handbags, scarves, pillows, aprons, tea cozies and small wall art.

Whitethorn Construction will also have their Holiday Room open, showing local artists from around the community - always a wonderful array of local talent.
