Four speakers will lead us in learning how to make community gardens successful for the gardeners and managers. Miles Gordon is coming from Mendocino County to share their program, Erin Derdin-Little will speak to the educational values of community gardens and how to enhance learning, Deborah Giraud will address common pitfalls and some best choices in vegetable gardening, and Stan Schmidt will help us plan quantities to plan and how to propagate.
The workshop is free, but you should call 445-7351 to register, as there is a free lunch provided. This workshop is sponsored by The Community Garden Collaborative, UC Cooperative Extension and HumCAN. The goal of the Garden Collaborative is to create a partnership of community garden groups interested in linking their efforts to improve people’s access to locally-grown and culturally appropriate food sources in Humboldt County.
The Garden Collaborative invites all community gardens to participate as partners, including school and youth club gardens, pantry gardens and traditional community gardens. For more information please call Chris Lohoefener at 707-269-2064 or e-mail at lohoefener@nrsrcaa.org. To register for the workshop on Oct. 31, please call 445-7351.
