All proceeds from the evening go to the Humboldt Community Breast Health Project, which provides information, support and hope to those with breast or gynecologic cancer or breast health concerns. The organization also educates the community on early detection and access to screening. All services are free of charge.
Tickets are $25, which includes the gourmet reception, and may be purchased from the Project office in Arcata (822-8345), the Arkley Center in Eureka (442-1956) or www.arkleycenter.com. For more information please call the Project office at 825-8345.
Dr. Cobb, who has performed for the Breast Health Project every year since the first concert nine years ago, will again be playing piano. Dr. Cobb and his wife, Dr. Ellen Mahoney, are long time supporters of the Breast Health Project.
Brad Curtis is making a return appearance after his acclaimed performance last year. Brad is a veteran actor and singer who lives in Ferndale. His mother is a breast cancer survivor. Elisabeth Harrington is making her second appearance for the Breast Health Project. She joined the Humboldt State Music Department faculty in 2006, where she teaches studio and class voice, lyric diction, and directs the opera workshop. Elisabeth will perform a varied selection of songs, both solo and in duet with Brad.
Also performing will be Annette Gurnee Hull, a well-know performer (with Piano Voce), accompanist (with HLOC), and teacher for 25 years, and Rose Armin-Hoiland, who has sung in many local choirs, musicals, and jazz trios.
Accompanists include Greg Granoff, an accomplished musical collaborator, playing piano, harpsichord, and organ, who also serves as HSU’s full time staff piano technician. Also accompanying will be Shao Way Wu, who teaches bass at HSU and performs locally, as well as Aber Miller, a music student at HSU who has performed with a variety of local groups.
During the intermission and at the reception there will be an opportunity to remember a loved one or honor a survivor of breast or gynecologic cancer by placing on a tree in the foyer, a ribbon, with, if one chooses, an appropriate message.
