The Community Alliance with Family Farmers kicks off Local Food Month with its third annual Taste of Place Garden Soiree at Redwood Farm in Bayside on Sunday, September 13.

This elegant fundraising event runs from 3 to 6 p.m. and features delicious hors d’oeuvres prepared by Celebrations Catering, regional wine and beer and a silent auction. Visitors can tour the gorgeous Redwood Roots Farm during the height of the growing season. Music will be provided by farmers market favorite Blue Lotus Jazz.

Tickets are $20 each and include one free drink. Children under five are free. Tickets can be purchased at the North Coast Co-op, Wildberries, Eureka Natural Foods, Rookery Books, the Farmers’ Market and through the CAFF office at (707) 444-3255. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $30. Advance ticket purchases are recommended because the event does sell out.

The Soiree benefits CAFF’s Farm-to-School program. Farm-to-School hosts educational farm and farmers market tours for school children in the community, exposing them to the places and faces that feed them while teaching the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Local Food Month is a countywide celebration of local food, local farmers, and local abundance intended to raise awareness of agriculture and healthy food systems in Humboldt County. A full calendar of events can be found at www.caff.org/humboldt or by contacting the CAFF office.
