On Wednesday, June 11, at approximately 1:15 a.m., a 2004 Honda MX 250 ridden by 25-year-old Anthony Thomas Lovatto, age 25 of Whitethorn, was traveling east on Briceland-Thorn Road, east of Shelter Cove Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda collided with a deer.
Lovatto , who was wearing a helmet, was ejected and sustained major injuries. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka.
"The officer on scene determined there was a possible presence of alcohol and did a sobriety test on the driver that he did not pass," California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Major said.
