Vernon David Graham passed away unexpectedly October 19, 2013, at his residence after having open-heart surgery on October 14, 2013.
Vernon was born on May 18, 1957. He graduated from high school in Eureka, California and then entered the Navy, where he served for several years. After leaving the Navy, he returned to California where he married and had two daughters, Crystal and Valerie.
Vernon always tried to be there for his family and children. Throughout Vernon’s life, he lived with many of his family members, where strong bonds were formed within the family. Vernon was always a happy go lucky guy. When you were around him, you just wanted to smile and laugh with him. Vernon was a wonderful, gentle man who was loved so very much and will be truly missed by all.
In 2009, Vernon went back to school, attending Shasta College, where he obtained his AA degree in diesel mechanics and welding techniques. Vernon graduated from college on May 25, 2012, which was one of his happiest moments of his life. He was so proud to have accomplished one of his dreams.
Vernon is survived by his two daughters, Crystal McCoy, and Valerie Kirkpatrick; his mother, Coleen Smith; his brothers, Jeff Graham and Robert Riley; his sister, Theresa Riley; along with numerous grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces and uncle’s and aunt’s.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at Sunrise Cemetery in Fortuna on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. With Vernon’s veteran status, the Honor Guard will be present during the memorial service.
