Five young adults were injured in single-vehicle accident on Briceland Road on Sunday, Sept. 1.
According to a California Highway Patrol report, Miki Murzi, age 23, of Santa Cruz, CA was driving a 2006 Dodge 2500 Ram at an unknown speed northbound on Briceland/Thorn Road, south of Thorn Junction.
As the vehicle entered a right curve in the road, it crossed over the southbound lane and collided with a tree located west of the road.
Passengers in the vehicle included Kayla Fernandez, age 19, of Fortuna; William Haug, age 22, of Redway; Carly Lehman, age 18, of Garberville; and Mathew Anderson, age 23, of Whitethorn.
All five of the occupants were transported to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital in Garberville. Murzi and Lehman received minor injuries. Anderson had moderate injuries, while Fernandez and Haug suffered severe injuries and were later transported out of the area for more advanced care.
The accident is still under investigation and the possibility of driving while under the influence is also being investigated.
