After obtaining consent to search, officers located multiple empty duffel bags which had an odor of marijuana in them. Officers also located a backpack in the front seat which contained over $100,000, which was seized by the officers.
The information of the seizure and the traffic stop was provided to the Trinity County Narcotics Task Force. A search warrant was obtained and served at the Vorabout residence in Weaverville where officers contacted Saengthong Mounivong, Vorabout’s wife.
A search of the residence was conducted, which lead to the seizure of 95 pounds of processed marijuana, a firearm, four growing marijuana plants and 165 germinating marijuana seeds.
Vorabout is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his arrest and conviction for possession of marijuana for sales in 2000.
Vorabout and Mounivong were charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sales, sales/transportation of marijuana, maintaining a place for illegally providing a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy, and child endangerment.
Due to children living at the residence CPS was requested to respond to the scene and conducted their own investigation. Mounivong was arrested and brought to the Trinity County jail where she was released on bail March 8.
