On Monday, March 4 at approximately 5:30 p.m., a 1995 Toyota Tacoma was traveling east on Elk Creek Road east of the Avenue of the Giants. The Toyota crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and collided head on with a 1991 Chevy van.

Both vehicles came to rest within the roadway and Elk Creek Road was closed in both directions for about an hour.

The driver of the Toyota, Faron Wayne Boldt, age 48, of Myers Flat sustained major injuries and was arrested at the scene for suspected felony DUI. Boldt was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna and released to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

The driver of the Chevy, Michael Gonzales, age 54, from Santa Rosa sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital. The California Highway Patrol of the Garberville area is investigating this collision.

The California Highway Patrol urges motorists to always wear their seatbelts and to not drink and drive.
