Dorothy graduated from Oregon State in Corvallis in the 1940s where she was president of the Independent Student Body Association. She then got a job in Miranda, at South Fork High School as a home economics teacher. Later she taught at Redway Elementary and Miranda Junior High for nearly 40 years.
Dorothy met her husband, Wilbern Carl Kluck, called “Bill,” in the Miranda Market. They married and had four children, Larry Kluck of Eureka with children Amber and Damon and special friend Kim Willis and daughter Molly; Linda and husband, Ned Shea, of Joplin, Missouri and children Angela, Trisha and Monica; Rick Kluck and wife, Tina, of Garberville and Marilou and husband, Mike Renner, of Fortuna and children Cameron, Truman and Garren. She had 16 great-grandchildren and loved them all.
Her husband, Bill, was postmaster in Miranda where they lived for many years. Dorothy was very involved in many groups, such as her church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, ESA Sorority, the Daffodil Society, Relay for Life, Garden Club, Meals on Wheels, Civic Club, PTA and Scouts.
She was very involved with her students and would volunteer her time and money just for them. She had special dinners to teach them etiquette. She would take them roller-skating in Fortuna, swimming in Scotia and to music concerts in Eureka. She loved to go to the Eureka Jazz Festival, community concerts and plays, and she always volunteered to take others.
She loved to travel abroad, work in her garden and take the family camping in Deerlick Springs. She was active in delivering Meals on Wheels to the elderly and she was involved heavily in the pen pal program that adopted students to write to.
After moving from Miranda, Dorothy and Bill moved to Royal Crest in Fortuna. Her final days were spent at Alder Bay in Eureka, which she absolutely loved. She was a wonderful giving person with a smile as big as her heart. She will be greatly missed by all her many students, friends and family.
Services for Dorothy were held at the United Methodist Church at 922 N Street in Fortuna on Saturday morning, March 9, 2013 at 10 a.m. and a reception followed.
Arrangements were under the care of Sanders Funeral Home, Eureka.
