The Ink People Center for the Arts presents a selection of stunning dance photographs from an ongoing collaboration for Eureka’s Arts Alive on Saturday, March 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the new Brenda Tuxford Gallery in Eureka.

The premiere will be an exhibition featuring principal photographic works on display as well as a continuous projected showing of the full collection of 100 photos throughout the night.

The essence of the show is an unusual pairing of dancers with environments outside of their normal studio practice spaces. For the past year, dancers Halie Gordon, Sarah Mastroni, Carrie Maschmeier, Linden Glavich, Linay Mitchell, and Elizabeth McCormack toured all over Humboldt County in search of the most optimal scenes conducive to creating this artistic dance conception.

That initial notion brought about traveling to locations including the Edge of the World, College Cove, Old Town Eureka, Honeydew, Blue Lake, and Table Bluff. The exhibition is curated by Carrie Maschmeier, who is well versed in the world of dance and began this project a year ago.

”Being in an area infused with such stunning landscapes and striking scenes, I wanted to use that as an environmental backdrop to fuse that natural beauty with the art of dance. The outcome has been incredible,” she states. The photographers for the show include aspiring photographer and AAI student, Zoey Gordon, Daniel Badeaux and all the dancers.

In addition to the exhibit, there will be live art taking place. Artists Kati Texas, Lauren Gunn, Gavin Backues, Allen Cassidy, Jaimal Kordes, and Jackie Maxwell will be painting, caricaturing, sketching, and water coloring dancers in costume throughout the night. One other dance supplement of the night will be a silhouette performance area where dancers will perform their improvisational shadowed movements.

Following the Arts Alive reception, the show will remain up for the whole month of March at the Brenda Tuxford Gallery, which is located in the newly renovated Healy Building in Old Town Eureka at 325 Second St., Suite 203. Open gallery hours for viewing the show are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
