Ethan Pinney

On December 31, 2013 we lost a well-loved and longtime member of our community, Ethan Pinney. Ethan was struck by a car while he was hitchhiking home on Hwy. 101 between Arcata and Eureka early in the morning. He died two hours later at St. Joseph Hospital due to the injuries he sustained from the accident.

Ethan was born in Redondo Beach, CA on November 25, 1972, and became a member of this community when he moved to Harris with his mother, Jeanne Foster, and sister, Celeste Pinney, in 1974. He also lived with his father, Daniel Pinney, in Forestville CA where he graduated from high school and spent several years.

Ethan is survived by his two sons, Tomas and Tristen Pinney; and his wife, Lorena Pinney, who lives in Santiago, Chile.

A memorial honoring his life will be held Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Mateel Community Center. A gathering will begin at 3 p.m., followed by a memorial ceremony at 4 p.m., and a potluck at 5:30 p.m.

Please bring food, beverages, flowers, photos and especially your stories and memories of Ethan to share with us all. Ethan was a special member of this community, a father, a son, a brother and a friend to many. He is deeply loved and will truly be missed.
