The Mateel Community Center in Redway is again offering the Spring Arts Collective, an eight week, fine arts and music program for kids ages 12 to 18. Classes will be held at the Mateel, on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., for eight weeks, starting on March 5.

Classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the last two weeks of the program so the young artists can be relaxed about finishing their projects for the Artists of the Emerald Coast event in late April at the Mateel, where they will be exhibited.

Local artists Marc Arceneaux and Margriet Seinen will be line drawing, painting, and silk painting, while Cathryn Guillette will work with students in musical improvisation and rhythm.

A donation of $5 per student per day is requested with no one turned away for lack of funds. Thirty spaces are available on a first come first served basis and participants are requested to make a commitment for the duration of the classes. Classes will start on Tuesday, March 5, and run every Tuesday through April 25.

The goal of the program is to provide positive and creative outlet for youth in our area, particularly as funding for some arts education is disappearing from public schools. The resulting art work and music generated will be displayed on April 27 at the annual Artists of the Emerald Coast art show and wine tasting held at the Mateel.

To register for Spring Arts Collective classes, you may come to the Mateel office in Redway and sign up in person; send an email to office@mateel.org, or call 707-923-3368. More information on the program will also available at www.mateel.org.
