The Ballad of the Little Match Girl is a theatrical ballad that artfully combines storytelling, acrobatics, and mask-theatre. Performed with virtuosic physical grace, the character of the little match girl never touches the ground, telling her story by travelling on the masked-narrator’s body. He is the master of ceremonies, who must carry out the inevitable ritual of death - nothing he tries can change her fate.
The performance is accompanied by a live, original musical score on the cello.
The first version of the show The Little Match Girl won the Migros-Kulturprozent award for Physical Theatre in 2010. The performance is produced with the support of Dimitri Theatre School (Academy for Physical Theatre of Southern Switzerland).
This version is presented by Dell’Arte at the Carlo Theatre in Blue Lake.
The show is suggested for adults and children 10 years and older and performed in Italian with English subtitles. Due to the intimate presentation style (some audience members will be seated on the stage) limited seats are available.
Tickets are $ 10 and reservations are required. To reserve tickets, call the Dell’Arte box office: (707)668-5663 ext. 20 or purchase online at www.dellarte.com.
