The hall will be decked out in the Black & Red Ball’s signature colors, nightclub style, complete with candlelit tables surrounding the dance floor. From “midnight ladies” in black or red evening dresses, to gents in black and/or red from head to toe, ball attendees rock their finest and funkiest black and red attire. Whether you dance the night away, or simply have a glass or two to watch and listen to this year’s artistically funkalicious performance by Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, the funk and Afro-beat of Motherlode and the heavy beat-assault “you can’t not dance to” of DJs Anya and Gabe, damn the cabin fever, you’re going to have a good time.
First timers at the Mateel, Motherlode, led by guitarist/founder, Greg Camphuis, formerly of Afromassive and the Bump Foundation, will bring their 10-piece funk and Afro-beat sounds, taking inspiration from 70’s soundtrack funk, James Brown’s JB’s, and Afrobeat.
Award winning duo DJ Anya and Gabe Pressure combine forces to shake dance floors with monster force. They blend worldwide sounds including reggae, Latin, electro, bhangra, hip-hop and Balkan beats. You can catch them rocking crowds all over Humboldt and abroad nearly every night.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Beer, wine, gourmet appetizers, desserts and refreshments will be available. Music begins at 8:30 p.m. For more information visit Mateel.org or call the Mateel office at 923-3368.
