College of the Redwoods is offering a spring semester Emergency Medical Technician I class at the U.S. Coast Guard station in Samoa.

The five-unit class will be offered on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. It begins on Saturday, Jan. 26. There are still a few openings and time to register.

Call CR’s health occupations office at 476-4216 or register via CR’s website at www.redwoods.edu and check out WebAdvisor. The official class title is HO-159 (Health Occupations) Emergency Medical Technician.

This EMT class is a pre-requisite for CR’s paramedic program. The class also prepares students to take the national registry exam as an EMT.

The class is a study of basic pre-hospital emergency medicine to meet the state of California requirements of EMT-I training. Students will learn to properly assess, stabilize, treat and transport patients experiencing medical and trauma emergencies. This course includes clinical observation experience with an ambulance service and in a hospital emergency room.

The Coast Guard station is located at 95 New Navy Base Road in Samoa.
