On Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 5:45 p.m., a Trinity County sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop on a man operating an off-road ATV in the lane of travel on SR 3 near East Road in Hayfork.

During the stop the deputy located a rifle on the ATV and several handguns in a backpack mounted near the handlebars on the front of the ATV. One of the handguns was loaded and the driver was found to have several extra rounds of ammunition on his person. The deputy also located 21 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 132 grams of concentrated cannabis and 68.5 grams of processed marijuana on the subject’s person.

The subject, Benjamin Franklin Moore, age 43, from Hayfork, was arrested for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm, and transportation and possession of controlled substances for sale.

Moore was being held on bail of $65,000 and bailed out of the Trinity County jail on Dec. 28.
