I am amazed as I look back to the simple beginning of 20 new coats in 2008 to the over 3,000 new and gently used coats that we collected and distributed last year to our local school districts and other organizations that help children in need here in Humboldt County.
It is all of you who have supported Coats for the Cold, from the businesses that have generously donated their time and services, to the organizations that have helped distribute the coats to our local children in need that have made this movement a success. Such success is easily measured in the smiles and thanks from our local citizens who we have been able to provide one of the most basic needs: a warm winter coat.
Together, since our beginning, we have supplied over 5,000 new and gently used coats to our community. But, it is also much more than coats. Each coat we provide builds self-esteem and gives an individual the dignity and respect he or she deserves.
With the temperature about to drop, the need for coats is as great as ever. This year we respectfully ask you to continue as part of Coats for the Cold (coatsforthecold.org) in any way possible. Your effort makes a difference here in Humboldt County.
