This shortfall is primarily due to a decrease in revenue brought in through fundraising and private donations, as well as the expiration of a grant that paid for the volunteer coordinator’s salary.
HRCH has responded to this challenge by working with staff members to come up with a plan to cut down on personnel costs by eliminating one part-time office position and consolidating others. Office hours will also be reduced to four days a week. The new office hours will be Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will, however, still be someone on call 24 hours a day, every day. These changes alone will reduce expenses by $19,000 per year.
The board also discussed ways of increasing revenue, including stepping up fundraising efforts and hiring a grant writer.
The next fundraiser is on Friday, Dec. 7 - HRCH’s annual Evening of Remembrance - when the community is invited to commemorate family members and friends by hanging origami cranes in their honor. On that evening at 5:30 p.m. we will come together at Hospice, 464 Maple Lane in Garberville, to remember and celebrate our loved ones.
