South Fork’s harriers ran in the fifth Humboldt Del Norte League meet last Tuesday at McKinleyville, and Junior Dustyn Salomon came home with second place while everyone on the team achieved a new personal record in the 3-mile event. The flat course wound around and through the high school campus and track so the runners were able to see each other often during the run. There were 61 male runners and South Fork’s 6-man team took 3rd place behind McKinleyville and Arcata.
Salomon and Arcata runner Jose Lopez traded the lead throughout the race but Salomon had to settle for 2nd place with a time of 16:46. Senior David Chadbourne took 7th with a 17:13 time. Junior Jesus Lopez finished 15th with a time of 17:59, his first time ever under 18 minutes. Senior Ismael Lopez was 17th at 18:37, senior Devin Hand came in 30th with a time of 19:54. Senior Damian Alatorre improved his previous best time by almost a minute, finishing 47th at 22:24.
