This year the committee is honoring Congressman Mike Thompson who has represented this area for the last 20 years, both in the state Senate and in the U.S. House of Representatives. Due to the new district boundaries, Congressman Thompson is now in a neighboring district. This dinner is an opportunity for local democrats to thank Congressman Thompson for his courageous leadership and hard work, for always being available and for making our voices heard in the capitol.
The committee will also celebrate stalwart democratic activist Bette Boyd who has staffed the HCDCC office for years and whose commitments range from rural education in India to helping cancer, mentally challenged and HIV patients in our community.
Finally, the recently formed North Coast Young Democrats group will honor Arcata city councilman Shane Brinton for his work and his inspiration to the young democrats of our county.
The evening begins with a no-host reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. The buffet dinner will be prepared by Blackberry Bramble and will feature local organic products including tri-tip roast, chicken, and vegan selections including vegetable, salad and a vegan dessert. Music will be provided by Nice and Easy.
Tickets are $25 per person in advance, $30 at the door. To make reservations, visit the HCDCC website http://www.humboldtdemocrats.org or call Democratic Headquarters at 445-3366. The HCDCC looks forward to sharing this very special evening with the community.
