On Sunday, Aug. 19, the Southern Humboldt Amateur Radio Club operated an amateur radio station at the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse at Mal Combs Park in Shelter Cove as part of the North American Lighthouse Weekend, an annual Ham radio event. The SHARC club made contact with five other lighthouses, the most distant, a Canadian lighthouse on Lake Ontario, near Niagara Falls, as well as numerous other Ham stations as far away as Maryland, Virginia and Hawaii.
