Derby season is heating up with another double-header coming up on July 14. This bout will feature Humboldt’s Widow Makers facing off against their neighbor league to the south, the Mendo Mayhem Roller Girls at 6 p.m., followed by a fast-paced battle between Humboldt’s Redwood Rollers and one of San Diego’s toughest flat-track leagues, the Starlettes around 7:30 p.m.

As one of the newest member leagues of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), Humboldt has been facing increasingly tough teams and competing in challenging tournaments up and down the West Coast. This will be their third home bout of the 2012 season, with three more to follow through October.

Tickets are available now at The Works in Eureka, People’s Records in Arcata, and online via humboldtrollerderby.com. Prices are $12 in advance or $15 at the door - if there are any left. Be sure to get yours quickly as home games tend to sell out early.

Humboldt Roller Derby bouts are always family-friendly, and kids 10 and under enter free. Home bouts proudly feature entertainment by Humboldt’s very own Derby Darlings dance crew and the best derby-loving brass band of all time, the Dirty Derby Blowhards.

Beer proceeds from this bout will benefit Northern Humboldt Eyes for the Blind, featuring microbrews generously donated by Six Rivers Brewery.
