A single-vehicle crash Sunday night in Garberville sent the driver to jail on suspicion of DUI while her passenger was hospitalized with major injuries.
Authorities with the Garberville branch of the California Highway Patrol said Monday that the driver, Garberville resident Chelsea Keahon, 24, ran into an embankment on Thomas Road just west of Salmon Creek Road at 10:35 p.m. Sunday. Her passenger, Garberville resident Francisco Antonio Giammanco, wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.
CHP said Keahon was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and Giammanco was taken to the hospital. He sustained major injuries, including head trauma. As of Monday afternoon, hospital representatives said Giammanco was in stable condition at St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka.
