A guided hike with information focused on native plants will be offered Saturday, June 2, in the King Range National Conservation Area. The outing is part of a summer hikes series offered by the Bureau of Land Management and the Lost Coast Interpretive Association. There is no fee.

The hiking group will meet at 10 a.m. at the King Range Project Office, 768 Shelter Cove Road, Whitethorn. The hike is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning at the Nadelos Campground on Chemise Mountain Road. Hikers should be prepared for a route that gains 800 feet in the first mile and a half. They should wear sturdy hiking boots, bring food and water and be prepared for coastal weather.

Cheryl Lisin, a landscape designer with detailed knowledge about native plants, will lead the walk, explaining the forest and chaparral plants on Chemise Mountain and the riparian (streamside) plants along Bear Creek.
