South Fork High School
Student Trustee Arturo Lopez reports that 19 students from the Drama Club attended four plays in Ashland, Oregon. They saw Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Pride and Prejudice, Hamlet, and She Loves Me.
The Spring Play will open on May 20 at the Mateel. Bride - A Tale from the House of Frankenstein will be presented May 20 through 22 at 8 p.m. and on the 23rd at 2 p.m.
Seniors are counting the days until their senior trip and graduation. They are busy deciding who will make speeches and what music will be played. Ms. Valdez is predicting good math scores on the STAR tests because her Algebra 2 students are getting good grades in class.
Principal Jim Stewart reports that Joe Gauvin and Emily Totten were chosen King and Queen at the Prom, held this year at the Scotia Inn.
Steve Jones and Nick Boyd took a group of students on a tour of the metal fabrication shops. Ann Constantino held the annual Junior Parent Night to provide college and trade school information. Thirty-five parents attended.
Senior Awards and Scholarship Night will be held June 2 at 6 p.m. and underclassmen will be honored at a whole school rally on June 9.
In preparation for graduation, a campus cleanup will be held on June 5 at 10 a.m.
Agnes J. Johnson School
Fifth grade students will be attending the Mad River Creek Days at Pamplin Grove, Dune Day and Park Day at Burlington Campground. Open House is scheduled for May 27 and will include a Science Night presentation and a musical performance directed by new music teacher Nola Sharp.
Casterlin
Fields trips are planned throughout the month. Seven young ladies will graduate from Casterlin on June 9.
Redway School
Principal Julie Johansen reports that Redway is back in 1st place in the Governor’s Challenge for the North Coast. The contest officially ends on May 31 and the competition is strong, so all support is needed.
There were 32 children registered for kindergarten for next year. The incoming kindergarten class was treated to a bus ride on a school bus and a day of activities.
Transition Day will take place on May 19. Sixth grade students from Whitethorn and 5th grade students from Agnes Johnson will visit the campus on that day.
Redway Elementary is collecting pledges for the Walk in the Park on May 22.
Open House will be on May 26 from 4:30 to 8:30, and will include a retirement party for teacher Kurt Stoeffel and the 5th grade musical performance.
Congratulations to Sue Ivey who has earned an Excellence in Teaching Award.
Ettersburg
The Arts Alive lasagna fundraiser went well. Students will be going to Shelter Cove on May 19 with Rachel Sowards of the Bureau of Land Management. The class will be going to Monterey on June 1 and staying until June 3. Play Group will continue through most of the summer but the hours will be changed.
Whitethorn
April’s Good Citizens were Tristan Straka, Suny Ballou, Lukas Charbonneau Wilson, Arianna Cheney, Kaleb Cogswell, Daniel Murchison, Antonio Gross and Seaora Madrone Woods.
The Family Fun Run will take place on Saturday, May 29 with a barbecue at Mal Combs Park in Shelter Cove.
The plant sale at Whitethorn Construction has been going well. Donations of starts for this fundraiser are very welcome.
