On Thurs., Dec. 3, at approximately 1 p.m. a pickup truck carrying a male passenger pulled into the northbound Hwy. 101 scales north of Metropolitan Road near Fortuna. Garberville CHP officer Dave Anderson was inspecting commercial vehicles at the scale facility. The male driver of the pickup told Anderson that the passenger was feeling ill.
When Anderson checked, the passenger was going in and out of consciousness and he realized the man, who was from Redcrest and in his early seventies, had stopped breathing and was unresponsive.
He was removed from the vehicle and did not have a pulse. Officer Anderson began CPR immediately and administered oxygen until the City Ambulance crew arrived. The man was then transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna for further treatment and observation and is expected to survive.
