I am new to South Fork High School this year, but I have noticed that we are a really lucky school. First of all, we have many supportive programs. Also, it is a small school, but has many advantages about it.

Here at South Fork we have many programs supporting our school. We have clubs like Spanish, Drama and Earth Club. I think we are really lucky to have these clubs because it gives us opportunities to travel, express ourselves, and help our environment. There are counselors who can help us with almost anything, and even start after-school programs for us. These are great things to have.

Next, I would like to point out our supportive parents here at South Fork and staff. Without the support of the parents and staff there would be no South Fork High. Parents help by donating, helping out with fundraisers, and just being there for almost anything. Staff is the most important thing, because obviously if we did not have staff, we would not be learning and we would not be at school. Another thing I would like to point out is that teachers help us with everything - our work, improving our grade, and giving us extra credit work.

Lastly, I would like to talk about how our school is semi-small. The good things about having a small school is that you can get to know people better, and personally I think you can learn better; you get more one-on-one time. Also another advantage of having a small school is we get to leave the campus during lunch and break. We have a few different choices, such as the coffee shop, store and café. This is a great thing to have.

To conclude, even though our school is small we have many advantages. There are many great clubs to join, and supportive parents. The staff is great at this school. Also, I would like to add that several students who have attended South Fork High have been accepted into very prestigious schools, like U.C. Berkeley and U.C. San Diego.

South Fork isn’t like any other school. SFHS students and teachers are like one big family. By my freshmen year at South Fork I knew every teacher and most students. No one is extremely mean or “too weird” at our school. There are not any main cliques or anything. I love having a family of friends here. Not only that, but I like having a good relationship with my teachers.

I hope to see the enrollment and student participation shoot up. It would be so great to have our school back in tip top condition like it used to be and our sports teams excel and win more trophies and be proud to represent our school. More importantly though, students getting involved in school and taking action! The school needs more people to stand up and take action for more changes they want to see happen to their school. I think it can happen if we all cared just a little more.

What makes SFHS great is the people and the staff always seem ready and willing to help. There aren’t cliques within the school. All groups of students seem to integrate in a way unique to this school.

I think that with a little more effort and dedication South Fork High could be a school that the community can be proud of. I hope there is a day when somebody’s poor education cannot be excused “because it’s South Fork.”

South Fork High School is a little school in Miranda, with a big California attitude. At South Fork High you have the nice surroundings of giant redwoods and a relaxed feeling in the air, something not usually found in a big, inner-city school.

The great teachers make enough time to give individual help, providing a relaxed atmosphere for learning. Then again ,with all the new budget cuts and everything that the state is going through we still don’t have all the equipment and classroom materials that we need. If it weren’t for grant money and donations our school wouldn’t even have a working library, or computer lab.

I really appreciate all the good aspects of a small school. You have the teaching staff that makes time to help all the students and their individual needs, plus most of them know how to do their jobs well. The community around our school is very involved and helpful with resources they have to work with. We also have an excellent basketball court, football field, and all around great athletic programs. Our school curriculum also offers many different electives such as culinary arts, wood shop, metals shop, digitals arts, ceramics, and art 1 and 2.

But even with all these great aspect there is always room for improvement. It would be great to get our tennis court renovated - then we could have a tennis team. One of the major problems for me is that we don’t have an auto shop, which would have been my favorite class if it had been offered.
