The Garberville-Redway Area Chamber of Commerce is once again sponsoring a community Halloween Festival, on Saturday, October 31. The fun will begin at 3:30 p.m. as children gather in the parking lot at Ray’s Food Place in Garberville for the costume contest.

Judging for the contest will begin at 4 p.m. and will be divided into three groups: Birth through preschool, kindergarten through second grade, and third grade and older. On arrival get a number for your child from the front table. The number will be color-coded with the area where the children are to gather.

Each child or group needs a number to help the judges. The number need not be attached to the child, just have it ready if the judges ask to see it. Each child should carry the number when his/her group parades for the judges. If the child is unable to carry it, an adult may accompany them and hold the number. If the child is fearful to walk in the parade, please feel free to accompany them. We want this to be fun for them. After the winners are announced, please return numbers to the milk crates provided.

The Scream Contest will follow the costume contest as soon as the contestants gather. Scream Contest entrants should go to the Scream Contest area, get an orange entry number, and line up by number. When called to the microphone to take their turn, hold the number in front of you so the judges can see it. Keep your number until judging is completed. You may be called back for a second round.

Following these events, Ray’s has some special promotions inside, so pay them a visit before heading out to trick-or-treat the merchants in town. Please place all trash in the provided trash containers.
