Caltrans announced last week that a detour will be in effect for three days on Route 101 in Humboldt County near Redcrest. Beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27, through 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, traffic on Route 101 will be detoured onto Route 254 between the Avenue of the Giants/Pepperwood and Redcrest/Holmes exits.

Northbound traffic will be detoured from Route 101 to Route 254 at the Redcrest/Holmes exit number 667, and will re-enter Route 101 at the Avenue of the Giants/Pepperwood onramp. Southbound traffic will be detoured from Route 101 to Route 254 at the Avenue of the Giants/Pepperwood exit number 674, and will re-enter Route 101 at the Redcrest/Holmes onramp. The Barkdull Road exits will be closed during this time.

This detour is necessary for work being done at the Redcrest Sinkhole Repair Project taking place on Route 101 approximately 2 miles north of Redcrest. For public safety during this portion of this project, Route 101 must be temporarily closed at this location.
